The Vermont Community Broadband Board (VCBB) has launched a new program to help Vermonters afford broadband connections. The Affordable Drop Program provides grants to eligible providers to cover connection costs for long or nonstandard service drops, including underground installations. Learn more about how CVFiber is implementing this program through our Zero-Cost Internet Installation Program.
CVFiber follows all applicable National Electrical Safety Code standards, as well as manufacturer specifications for telecommunications cable, equipment, and systems.
In most cases, CVFiber installs service using aerial construction on jointly used utility poles. Our policy covers up to 500 feet of aerial construction from the nearest pole on our network at no cost to the customer.
If underground conduit is needed, an NEK Broadband technician will evaluate whether existing conduit can be used to install the fiber optic line. If it can’t be used or if an aerial line longer than 500 feet is needed, customers may apply to the ZIIP. If eligible under the program’s grant requirements, NEK Broadband will install underground conduit or a long aerial drop to the residence at no cost. If a customer does not qualify, they are responsible for the installation whether it be underground conduit or aerial beyond 500 feet. Follow these CVFiber’s specifications if you are installing underground conduit.
We have compiled a list of contractors available to perform underground conduit installations (see table below). If you choose a contractor not on this list, please have them contact us at 802-496-8902 or [email protected] to ensure they meet our requirements.
If you have questions about underground installation, or if you have recently completed conduit installation and need to notify us, please contact us at 802-496-8902 or [email protected]
