Washington Electric Cooperative (WEC), together with three municipal Communication Union Districts (CUDs), CVFiber, ECFiber, and NEK Broadband, are seeking to contract for the development of a high-level design for a Fiber To The Premises (FTTP) network for the 800+ miles of WEC distribution territory.
It is estimated that there are approximately 10,000 premises in this network.
The CUDs and WEC have banded together as a means of leveraging construction for both broadband telecommunications infrastructure and electric smart grid monitoring to serve the premises of the WEC members.
The State of Vermont has promoted the development of Communication Union Districts and public-private partnerships throughout the state in order to achieve broadband universal access.
Proposals are due by June 2, 2021.
